The Hon. Warwick Smith AM to retire from ANZ role

ANZ today announced The Hon. Warwick Smith AM will retire from his role as Senior Managing Director and Chairman, New South Wales & Australian Capital Territory to focus on his interests outside of banking.

Mr Smith, who joined the bank in 2007, will continue to serve as Board Director, ANZ China and Chair, ANZ Thailand.

ANZ Chief Executive Officer Shayne Elliott said: “Warwick has made a significant contribution during his 11 years at ANZ. He has been a highly regarded mentor to many across the bank, and a trusted advisor to our board.

“He has played an integral role in helping build our brand and influence in Asia, particularly China, using his extensive international relations experience to strengthen the connection between our regional network and Australia. He also has successfully driven the bank’s strategic priority to build our presence in NSW and the ACT.

“His experience, leadership and deep ties with both government and the corporate world have been highly valued and will be missed, and we thank him for his contribution to the bank’s success,” Mr Elliott said.

Mr Smith will finish in his current role at the end of February.
