Tony Warren joins ANZ as Group General Manager Communications and Public Affairs

ANZ today announced the appointment of Tony Warren as Group General Manager Communications and Public Affairs, reporting to Chief Executive Officer Shayne Elliott.

In this newly created role, Dr Warren will integrate ANZ’s government, communications, community and sustainability functions; help drive cultural change at the bank; and lead the program to better engage with ANZ’s customers and all levels of government.

Dr Warren joins ANZ after a decade at Telstra, where he was most recently Group Executive, Corporate Affairs. Over the past seven years, Dr Warren has helped rebuild Telstra’s relationships with regulators, government and the media, initially in his role leading the company’s negotiations with the government regarding the National Broadband Network.

Commenting on Dr Warren’s appointment, Mr Elliott said: “ANZ is committed to rebuilding our relationships with government, our customers and the wider community. Tony’s appointment is an important sign we are focused on driving a culture of trust, integrity and character throughout the bank.”

Dr Warren said: “I am excited to be joining ANZ at a time when it is very publicly and actively working to improve its reputation with customers and the community. There is important work to be done in Canberra and in communities throughout Australia, New Zealand and our wider network to ensure ANZ can best serve its customers and the wider community and, in turn, grow its business.”

As part of this change, the Group General Manager Corporate Affairs, Gerard Brown, and the Group General Manager Corporate Communications, Paul Edwards, will report to Dr Warren.

Dr Warren will be based in Canberra, where he lives with his wife and three children. He will start at ANZ on 3 October.
