ANZ appoints Michael Liarakos Chief Compliance Officer

ANZ today announced the appointment of Michael Liarakos as Chief Compliance Officer, reporting to Group Chief Risk Officer Nigel Williams.

Mr Liarakos has more than 30 years’ experience in audit, risk and compliance roles and has been Group General Manager Internal Audit since 2008. He is replacing Mark Evans who has been appointed Managing Director Transaction Banking.

 

Commenting on Mr Liarakos’s appointment Mr Williams said: “It’s pleasing to be able to appoint a banker with significant risk and compliance experience into this critical role. His strong values and leadership will be an important asset as we look to further strengthen our compliance function.”

 

“Michael takes over from Mark Evans who has made a significant contribution as ANZ’s first Chief Compliance Officer. Mark has built a highly regarded compliance function across our diverse network of countries and is well placed for his next role leading transaction banking,” Mr Williams said.

 

Sandra Burns has been appointed Acting Group General Manager Internal Audit, while an internal recruitment process is undertaken.

 

The appointments are effective 20 June 2016.
