ANZ today announced that it has received regulatory approval for the appointment of Vishnu Shahaney as President Director, PT Bank ANZ Indonesia (CEO ANZ Indonesia), reporting to Group Executive International Farhan Faruqui.

Mr Shahaney has been CEO, ANZ Singapore since 2010, during which time he was instrumental in building the Singapore business into a Qualified Full Bank and one of ANZ’s two regional business hubs in Asia.

Commenting on the appointment, Mr Faruqui said: "Vishnu is a highly experienced international banker with sound knowledge of the global landscape, having spent more than three decades leading various businesses at ANZ in Australia and Asia.

"I'm confident he will grow returns from our Indonesian business as we consolidate our leading position connecting Institutional clients with opportunities across Asia Pacific," Mr Faruqui said.

Throughout his career with ANZ, Mr Shahaney has held a number of senior management positions across corporate, institutional, transaction banking and risk in Australia, Singapore and India. His previous roles include Managing Director, Corporate Banking, Australia; Head of Risk for Corporate and Private Bank, Australia; Head of Transaction Banking & Specialised Lending, Asia Pacific, Europe & America; Acting CEO for Asia and Managing Director for Greater Mekong.

He will be taking over from Joseph Abraham, who will be leaving ANZ at the end of his term after more than seven years in the role.

“Since 2008 Joseph has led the ANZ franchise in Indonesia, establishing our strong position in institutional banking and our leading retail presence among foreign banks. I would like to thank Joseph for his dedication and contribution to our business over the years,” said Mr Faruqui.

Mr Shahaney is expected to commence as CEO Indonesia, based in Jakarta, within a few weeks.
