ANZ appoints Farhan Faruqui as CEO International Banking

ANZ today announced Farhan Faruqui has been appointed CEO International Banking, reporting to CEO International and Institutional Banking Andrew Géczy.

The role is responsible for supporting ANZ’s super regional strategy by improving the connectivity between ANZ’s 33 markets with a diverse set of customers.

 

Mr Faruqui is currently Head of Corporate and Investment Banking for Asia Pacific at Citigroup. In his 23 years at Citigroup, he has served in a number of senior executive roles including Head of Global Loans & Leveraged Finance, Asia Pacific, Head of Fixed Income, Capital Markets, Hong Kong, and Corporate Banking Head, Central Europe.

 

Mr Géczy said: “Attracting a person of Farhan’s calibre highlights how far we have come in building a strong international franchise that is now a serious competitor to the global, regional, and local banks operating in the region.

 

“Farhan is an international banker with deep experience in Asia. Throughout his 23 years with Citigroup, he has built an impressive track record developing businesses across multiple geographies. We look forward to him bringing his experience and insights to our customers,” Mr Géczy said.

 

International Banking is International and Institutional Banking’s largest business representing more than 17,000 customers across 33 markets. The Heads of International Banking in both Australia and New Zealand as well as country CEOs in Asia, the Pacific, Europe, the Middle East and America will report through to Mr Faruqui.

 

Mr Faruqui will join ANZ in August, based in Hong Kong.
