ANZ CEO Mike Smith - Comments on ANZ partnership in Cambodia

INTERVIEW WITH MIKE SMITH, CEO, ANZ.

CEO Mike Smith has spoken in Hong Kong and reiterated that the bank would prefer to have wholly owned businesses. He's in Hong Kong at a conference where he has unveiled a new publication called Caged Tiger: The Transformation of the Asian Financial System.   Mike Smith joins us now on Sky News Business. Mike Smith thank you for joining us. ANZ of course also exited a partnership in Vietnam in 2012. When you have been such a passionate advocate of the potential of Asia, is this another disappointing backward step to now sever Cambodian ties?

 

MIKE SMITH:

No, I mean, I think that the comments I made were taken out of context. What I've always said is that for minority interest that we have held, we always look to seek a way towards control and where possible to wholly own those businesses and that is exactly the same in Cambodia. I'd like to get a 100 per cent of it.
