Management Changes at ANZ Wealth

ANZ today announced that John Van Der Wielen has resigned as Managing Director, Wealth (Australia) to pursue an opportunity in the United Kingdom.

Gavin Pearce, General Manager Insurance, will take on the role of Acting Managing Director, Wealth while the search for a permanent replacement is underway. Mr Pearce joined ANZ as part the acquisition of the remaining 51 per cent stake of ING Australia in November 2009.

ANZ CEO Australia Phil Chronican said: “We are disappointed that John is leaving. He has bought together the previously separate wealth businesses to form ANZ Wealth which covers more than 3,500 staff, 2.5 million customers, and the second largest network of financial planners in Australia.

“During this time we have assembled a high calibre, experienced leadership team who are well positioned to take the business forward. This includes Craig Brackenrig, formerly of Aviva; Paul Barrett, formerly of Colonial First State; Edith Pfister, formerly of Swiss Re; and John Frechtling formerly of BT, complementing our existing leadership group.

“We have built a solid foundation for ANZ Wealth over the last two years. We have a clear strategy and I’m confident we can continue to deliver against this by leveraging the strength of our wealth businesses and ANZ’s distribution network, while also capitalising on the regulatory reform currently underway,” said Mr Chronican.

Mr Van Der Wielen will stay with ANZ for a period of time to ensure a smooth transition before taking up his new position in London at the end of the year.
