ANZ appoints Mark Whelan as Managing Director Commercial Banking Australia

ANZ today announced the appointment of Mark Whelan as Managing Director Commercial Banking, Australia, reporting to CEO Australia Philip Chronican. 

Mr Whelan is currently Managing Director of ANZ’s Institutional, Commercial and Private Bank businesses in Asia Pacific, Europe & America.

 

Since joining ANZ in 2004, Mr Whelan has held senior roles in ANZ’s Institutional business both in Australia and Asia. Previously Mr Whelan worked for Westpac and Citibank in senior commercial banking positions.

 

Mr Whelan’s responsibilities will include growing ANZ’s commercial business in Australia as well as increasing cross-border trade, markets and payments opportunities between Australia and Asia.

 

Commenting on the appointment Mr Chronican said: “It’s pleasing to have somebody of Mark’s calibre lead the commercial bank in Australia. His experience within ANZ and his international background in institutional and commercial banking will be a tremendous asset to our business. “The appointment signals our intent to grow our business here as well as our continuing focus on helping Australian customers do business in Asia,” said Mr Chronican.

 

An announcement regarding the allocation of Mr Whelan's responsibilities will be made later in February. Mr Whelan will commence in the role on 4 April 2011, based in Melbourne.
