John Van Der Wielen joins ANZ to lead Wealth.

ANZ today announced a new senior management team reporting to Phil Chronican CEO Australia, to support growth momentum in key market segments including its specialist Wealth businesses.

Commenting on the changes Mr Chronican said: “The new team and the changes to our business structure support our growth aspirations through a leaner, more customerdriven structure.”

Senior appointments to ANZ’s Australian leadership team announced today are:

  • John Van Der Wielen will join ANZ as Managing Director Wealth (Australia). Mr Van Der Wielen joins ANZ from Lloyds Banking Group plc, where he was Managing Director Clerical Medical, Halifax Life and European Financial Services based in London. Previously, Mr Van Der Wielen held senior wealth management roles in Australia with HBOS and Fortis. As part of the changes, Harry Stout, currently Managing Director of ANZ’s specialist wealth management business ING Australia, will assume responsibility as Acting Managing Director Wealth (Australia). Following Mr Van Der Wielen joining ANZ in October 2010, Mr Stout will be involved in the transition ahead of his planned return to the United States in 2011.
  • Louis Hawke has been appointed to a new integrated role as Managing Director Product, Strategy and Marketing. The new role will be responsible for developing integrated customer solutions within and across segments. Mr Hawke was formerly Managing Director Retail Distribution at ANZ.
  • Mark Hand has been appointed Managing Director Retail Distribution where he will continue ANZ’s focus on maintaining market leading levels of customer satisfaction and on acquiring new customers and growing business with existing customers. Mr Hand was previously General Manager Regional Commercial Banking at ANZ.

“John’s appointment, building on ANZ’s acquisition last year of the remaining 51% stake of ING Australia, signals our intention to grow more aggressively in the Wealth segment.

“With more than 25 years experience in general and life insurance, wealth management and banking, gained both in Australia and overseas, John will be a tremendous asset to ANZ and to our specialist wealth businesses,” Mr Chronican said.
