ANZ today announced the appointment of Anne Weatherston as Chief Information Officer reporting to Chief Executive Officer, Mike Smith.

Ms Weatherston will join ANZ from the Bank of Ireland where she has been Group Chief Information Officer for the past four years.

In this role Ms Weatherston has led the definition and development of a new bank-wide enterprise architecture and the transformation of the Bank of Ireland’s information technology structure and capability.

Previously, Ms Weatherston was Information Technology Director at Abbey/Santander and has held other senior business and technology roles in the United Kingdom at Gaz de France, the Student Loans Company and National Australia Bank and the Royal Bank of Scotland.

David Cartwright will continue to lead ANZ’s operations and shared services functions, including Property and our facilities in Bangalore, as well as driving ANZ’s strategic cost agenda as Chief Operating Officer.

Commenting on the appointment Mr Smith said: “We’re very pleased to have someone of Anne’s calibre and experience join ANZ.

“This appointment highlights the significant attention ANZ is placing on its systems and technology, including simplifying our approach to technology architecture and delivering global IT platforms and capabilities.

“It’s also a reflection of the scale and pace of change David is leading in operations and shared services in support of ANZ’s super regional bank aspirations,” Mr Smith said.

Ms Weatherston will join ANZ in early 2010 and will be one of 12 members of ANZ Management Board. David Cartwright will continue to report to the CEO and remain on Management Board. As a result of this change, next year ANZ’s core support division, Operations, Technology and Shared Services will be split into two separate divisions.
