Senior appointments at ANZ

ANZ today announced two Management Board appointments following a decision by Bob Edgar, ANZ’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer, to retire after 25 years with ANZ.

  • Graham Hodges will become Deputy Chief Executive Officer responsible for driving the Group’s operational performance and managing key client and other external relationships.

  • Mr Hodges is currently CEO New Zealand and Managing Director ANZ National Bank, a role he has held since late 2005. He was formerly Group Managing Director Corporate and has had a long career in corporate banking with ANZ as well as having previously been the Bank’s Chief Economist.

  • Jenny Fagg will join ANZ’s Management Board following her appointment by the Board of ANZ National Bank to the role of CEO New Zealand and Managing Director ANZ National replacing Mr Hodges. Dr Fagg is currently Deputy Chief Executive Officer ANZ National and Managing Director Retail Distribution for ANZ National. She was previously Managing Director Consumer Finance for ANZ in Australia.

ANZ Chief Executive Officer Mike Smith said: “Bob has had an outstanding career at ANZ and his leadership and track record over many years has established him as one of Australia’s leading bankers. I know Bob intends to continue his involvement in the business world and I want to extend my personal thanks for his invaluable contribution to ANZ and wish him every success.

“Like Bob, Graham is a former economist with extensive experience in corporate banking. Most recently he has made a major contribution as Chief Executive Officer in New Zealand since 2006. Jenny is one of our most talented executives with a strong background in retail banking in Australia and New Zealand and in risk management.

“It’s pleasing to have the management depth and diversity of talent at ANZ that allows us to make this transition and to have two executives of Graham’s and Jenny’s calibre on our Management Board,” Mr Smith said.

Mr Hodges’ and Dr Fagg’s appointments are effective 1 May 2009 following the retirement of Dr Edgar on 30 April 2009.
