New convenient banking solution for students from China studying in Australia

ANZ today announced the introduction of a new package for students and their families to make their banking more convenient and simple when moving from China to study in Australia.

ANZ WorldWise is the first package of its kind offered by an Australian bank that provides a total banking solution to families supporting their child studying and living in Australia.

ANZ Managing Director of Asia Pacific, Alex Thursby said WorldWise was designed to help students and their families with their banking needs before and after the student departs from China.

“ANZ WorldWise helps families save money in China, keep control of those funds and ensures their Australian accounts are ready when their child arrives in Australia,” Mr Thursby said. “They can then access and transfer funds as their child needs it.”

Mr Thursby said ANZ had identified an increasing need for a convenient banking solution among the growing number of Chinese students choosing to study in Australia.

“ANZ has a strong and established presence of more than 20 years in mainland China and with more than 38,000 new students from China studying in Australia each year, we have the geographic network and the products to support this group of customers with an important phase of their lives.

“We understand that with such a big opportunity to study in Australia comes some big practical and emotional decisions. When it comes to the important question of organising banking, ANZ WorldWise provides simple information for students living in Australia and helps keep family connected whilst a child is studying away from home.”

The ANZ WorldWise features:

  • High interest Foreign Currency Term Deposit and competitive foreign exchange conversion rates in China
  • Periodic transfers to the student’s Australian accounts to assist in paying school fees and dayto-day expenses
  • Convenient transaction and savings account in Australia ready upon arrival
  • Access in Australia to ANZ’s 24-hour, 7 days a week network.

In addition, ANZ WorldWise can also help students provide evidence of sufficient funds to pay for travel, tuition and living expenses as required by the Australian Government before a student visa is issued.

Customers can obtain more information about ANZ WorldWise by contacting ANZ on movingfromchina@anz.com.

ANZ has branches in Beijing and Shanghai, and last month received regulatory approval to start preparation work to upgrade its representative office in Guangzhou to a branch and to create a new sub-branch in Beijing.
