ANZ today announced the appointment of Sean West to the role of Managing Director, Wealth Asia and Ross Foden as Head of Operations for Asia Pacific.

Mr West has extensive wealth management experience having held leadership roles in operations, product development and management, business development, distribution and advice. Most recently he was General Manager, Insurance for St George Bank in Sydney and prior to that he was Head of Advice Business Solutions for St George’s funds administration and financial advice business Asgard Wealth Solutions.

In the new role of Managing Director Wealth Asia, Mr West will lead strategic growth in investment and insurance in selected Asian markets.

Mr Foden has worked in senior operations roles within the HSBC Group in Asia for the past eight years, including in Hong Kong and Malaysia, after starting his career in the United Kingdom. Most recently, he was responsible for the strategic direction, development and management of HSBC’s Global Resourcing Centre in Malaysia, which supports retail and commercial banking operations in 21 countries.

Commenting on the appointments, ANZ Group Managing Director Asia Pacific, Alex Thursby said: “These are two important leadership roles as we continue to push ahead with our strategy to grow ANZ’s business in Asia Pacific to 20 per cent of Group earnings by 2012 and create a super regional bank.

“There are significant opportunities in the medium term to build a Wealth business to meet the growing aspirations of customers in Asia, particularly in our key markets of Greater China, Indonesia, Vietnam, India and Malaysia.

“The creation of a Head of Operations role for Asia Pacific reflects the significant operations and transformation agenda which will support ANZ’s growth in the region,” Mr Thursby said.

Both roles are Singapore-based and will report directly to Mr Thursby. Mr Foden is due to start with ANZ on 1 September and Mr West commences in his new role on 15 September.
