ANZ organises Asia Pacific business for future growth

ANZ today announced a new organisation structure for its Asia Pacific Division to assist in developing new revenue opportunities and accelerate the growth potential of its Network and Partnerships activities.

Two senior leadership roles have been created to bring greater focus to growth in retail and institutional business, and align Asia Pacific with ANZ’s Divisional structure. These roles are: ƒ

  • Managing Director Retail – Asia. Mr Owen Wilson has been appointed to this new role, reporting jointly to Group Managing Director, Asia Pacific Division, Mr Alex Thursby and Group Managing Director, Personal Division, Mr Brian Hartzer. This role will build a strong retail proposition in ANZ’s existing markets in Asia and in the partnership businesses. Mr Wilson was previously Managing Director, International Partnerships for the Asia Pacific Division. ƒ
  •
  • Managing Director Institutional – Asia. Mr Mark Whelan has been appointed to this new role, reporting jointly to Alex Thursby and Group Managing Director, Institutional Division, Mr Peter Hodgson. This role has a clear brief to exploit opportunities for growth for institutional clients through ANZ’s network and partners. Mr Whelan was previously Joint Managing Director, Markets for the Institutional Division and as a consequence of his new role, Mr Gilles Planté will become sole Managing Director, Markets.

To support the new Asia Pacific structure, ANZ will have three senior regional roles reporting to Mr Thursby with responsibility for leading the development of the business and developing client relationships in ANZ’s key Asia Pacific geographies.

Mr Mike Guerin will continue as Managing Director, Pacific, and two new roles will be created covering South and South East Asia, and North East Asia. ANZ will conduct an internal and external search over coming months to fill the new roles.

Mr Thursby said: “The structure brings renewed focus to developing ANZ as a significant regional financial services institution. It will enable us to deepen our market penetration, maximise earnings potential and to develop our franchise by harnessing the combined potential of our Network and Partnerships activities.”

These appointments are effective immediately.
